I originally wrote this blog post on January 18th, 2012 when I was the Lead Trainer & Themer at Chapter Three. I’m reposting it here (potentially with minor edits) for posterity, but you can read the original article there.

If today is January 18th, 2012 then you may see something different about our logo. I’m proud to announce that we at Chapter Three are joining thousands of others to publicly show our opposition to SOPA and PIPA. Not sure what SOPA and PIPA are? In short, they are separate pieces of pending legislation which threaten many legitimate websites that many of us use on a daily basis. For more information we encourage you to check out the blog post of our very own Josh Koenig, Keep The Internet Alive, Growing, Free. Sure, maybe Wikipedia, Reddit and Google are making a stand, but what do our clients think about this? Here’s what the Tor Project has to say about SOPA and PIPA. If you’re convinced this a problem, then be sure to check out the huge collection of resources from one of our other clients, the Electronic Frontier Foundation. I’ll leave you with a call to action from Josh’s post:

Here’s what you can do: call your Congressperson. Media lobbying groups have spent millions arguing for this thing, so their favorite representatives were bound to introduce something, but that doesn’t mean that Congress needs to broadly support it. Old-fashioned as it may seem, representatives still have people who answer their phones, and they tally up the calls on important legislation yay or nay. So take five minutes and make a call, rattle someone’s cadge, educate a congressional staffer, let them know this is truly a bad idea.
